Sir Andrew Burns, Chairman of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) for 2014-15, has been the United Kingdom Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues and Head of the IHRA Delegation since 2010. He is also the UK representative on the International Commission for the International Tracing Service at Bad Arolsen.
A career diplomat since 1965, he has been British High Commissioner to Canada, British Consul-General in Hong Kong and Macau, Deputy Under Secretary of State and British Ambassador to Israel. His earlier postings included India, Romania and the United States.
Sir Andrew has been an International Governor of the BBC, Chairman of Royal Holloway, University of London and the elected Chair of the Committee of University Chairs in the UK. He is an independent Governor of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and currently chairs Hestercombe Gardens Trust and the International Polar Foundation-UK.
